Heart-shaped leaves

Heart-shaped leaves greet us

at the entrance to our favorite fishing spot.

Just us two in our blue canoe.

The magic of nature is lush.

August begins my fishing story full of lures, loons, light, and magic.

Here’s the catch:

We actually caught some fish!

As the sun began to rise over the calm waters of the lake, we packed up tackle boxes and lunch to set off in a 1974 model blue canoe. The morning air was crisp and cool.  Birds were just starting to sing as we paddled toward our favorite fishing spot. Heart-shaped leaves greet us at the entrance to our favorite fishing spot. When we approached the entrance to the cove, we were greeted by a chorus of loons calling out to each other across the water.  One of them appeared next to the canoe and got a snack of bread from Jill. Meanwhile, Steve reached into his tackle box and pulled out a shiny lure, while Jill opted for a lure full of gummy worms. They cast their lines and waited patiently.

Oh, the beauty of these surroundings!  But Jill was telling the loon it should leave. “Look, it’s not even brunch yet and you ate half of my sandwich already!” After being ignored, the loon dove far underwater to reappear on the other side of the lake. The afternoon brought wonderous lighting to the Autumnal display, so these are the results of the photography opportunities available to two who fish in a blue canoe in 2022. And here you can get a glimpse of this experience too at Artmajeur and Saatchiart.

The shoreline was dotted with lily pads, and the dappled sunlight danced across the surface of the water. It was the perfect day for fishing. As they waited, they watched a family of blue herons wading through the shallows, searching for their breakfast.

Suddenly, Jill’s line started to tug and she inadvertently reeled in a colorful sunfish. Steve’s line wasn’t far behind, and he triumphantly pulled in a scrappy Northern. In trying to assist, the rest of Jill’s gummy worms fell overboard. “Too bad that gummy I named trump ended up way down there in the muck, but those were some old and tasteless worms. Let’s just leave trump here and move East. a bit”.

They continued to fish for hours, enjoying the peaceful solitude of being out on the water together, except when he tried to stand up. “Don’t rock the boat baby” as they say.

As the sun began to set, they saw a turtle basking on a nearby log. They paddled over for a closer look, and as they drifted by, the turtle stretched out its neck and seemed to smile at them. We found out it really wanted Steve’s lunch when it, too, like the loon, appeared next to the canoe.

It was a magical moment, one that they would always remember.

As the day came to a close, we paddled back to shore with a sense of contentment and satisfaction. We actually caught some fish today! It had been a perfect day of fishing; filled with loons, lures, lily pads, dappled sun, and all the magic of nature.

This much is apparent in the photos available as giclee prints through the world-class galleries I’m fortunate to participate in…..

get to the point already Jill!
